Dental Technology
Tshwane University Of Technology Dental Assistant, The dental technician/technologist is an irreplaceable member of the dental team. A dentist takes care of the clinical aspects, whereas, the dental technician manufactures prostheses and appliances such as crowns and dentures. His/her work conserves and maintains remaining oral structures restores oral function like mastication and speech and improves aesthetics. In doing so, not only is the patient’s physical needs looked after, but self-esteem is restored or maintained. The high level of technical prowess needed in this discipline gives the technician a high level of satisfaction in his work.

After completion of the programme National Diploma: Dental Technology the student should have acquired the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to successfully complete work in the prosthetics, chrome-cobalt partial denture, crown and bridge and orthodontic fields as an employee in a dental laboratory. On completion of the Bachelor’s Degree in Technology: Dental Technology, advanced techniques and business practice skills will help in setting up a successful laboratory and being an employer.

Dental Assisting
The dental assistant is responsible for assisting dentists in dental practices or clinics and plays an important role in infection control, mixing and preparing dental materials, providing patients with information on oral hygiene and developing and mounting X-rays. Furthermore, the role of the assistant is extended to keeping record of patients, dealing with appointments, assist with stock control and accounts.

APPLICATION FEES PAYMENT METHODS (NEW STUDENTS)


Administration fee and accepted methods of payment
An application fee of R240 must accompany your application form. This fee covers the administration cost of processing application forms and is non-refundable in the event of your application being unsuccessful. The application fee can be made by direct bank deposit, electronic/Internet transfer or by postal order.  The application fee should be deposited or transferred to the following account:

Please note that NO late application fee is payable.  The normal application fee is applicable to all applications for admission. Please make a copy of the proof of payment, keep the original with you, and submit the copy with your application form.

Confirmation deposit
A confirmation deposit of R500 must be paid within three weeks after the receipt of the acceptance letter, in order for us to reserve the student’s place in the programme.  The deposit, less R240, will be refunded only if a prospective student is prevented from registering by valid reasons, for instance, if he or she fails Grade 12.

Registration/Deposit fee upon registration

  • An upfront payment of R1 500 is payable on registration in January/February and in July. New students who have already paid the R500 confirmation fee need only pay R1000 upon registration (see 2 below for banking details for registered students).
  • If a student cancels during the registration period, he or she gets 100% credit and forfeits R240 of the class deposit.
  • A full refund of fees paid will only be allowed if the student no longer qualifies or has been excluded from studying.

The TUT Business School is ideally positioned for a specific niche area through its carefully selected electives, such as Technological Entrepreneurship, Project Management, Quality Management, Management of Technology, Environmental Management and International Finance.

TUT started offering the MBA in collaboration with the University of Wales in 1999, and since 2002, the University has been offering its own MBA, fully accredited by the CHE.
