ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR HND PROGRAMMES

A. SSSCE / WASSCE APPLICANTS FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMMES

            SSSCE applicants must have at least credit passes (A – D) in three (3)  

   core subjects including Core English, Core Mathematics and Integrated

Science in addition to any two (2) relevant subjects with aggregate score
of 24 or better.

            WASSCE applicants must have at least credit passes (A1 – C6) in three    

(3) core subjects including Core English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science in addition to any two (2) relevant subjects with aggregate score of 30 or better.

B. SSSCE / GBCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS FOR BUSINESS & ARTS

         PROGRAMMES

SSSCE/GBCE applicants must have credit passes (A- D) in three (3) core subjects including Core English, Core Mathematics and Integrated/Social Studies in addition to any two (2) relevant elective subjects with aggregate score of 24 or better.
WASSCE applicants must have credit passes (A1- C6) in three (3) core subjects including Core English, Core Mathematics and Integrated/Social Studies in addition to any two (2) relevant elective subjects with aggregate score of 30 or better.

C. PRE-HND (ACCESS COURSE) APPLICANTS

Applicants must pass all subjects (English, Mathematics and Science) in the NABPTEX Access Course plus technician certificate or two credit passes in science/engineering elective subjects (WASSCE students).

D. TECHNICIAN APPLICANTS

Passes in Part I and Part II certificates or a pass in Ordinary Technician Diploma (OTD)

E. TECHNICAL SCHOOL APPLICANTS (CERTIFICATE II)
Passes in English language, Mathematics, Integrated Science plus any three (3) relevant trade courses.

f. DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS STUDIES (DBS) CANDIDATES

Four (4) WASSCE passes (A1 –C6) or four (4) SSSCE/GBCE passes (A – D) or GCE ‘O’ Level/ including English Language and Mathematics, plus the DBS qualification (at least passes in five (5) subjects) could be used as entry qualification for relevant HND programme.

g. gce ‘A’ level /aBCE applicants

Four (4) GCE ‘O’ Level /GBCE credits passes including English Language and Mathematics.

        AND

A minimum of two (2) GCE ‘A’ Level or two (2) ABCE passes in relevant subjects.

H. Other certificate and Diploma Applicants

i. A diploma from a recognised higher institution.
OR
ii. Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) Level I
OR
iii. A degree in relevant area.

I. TEACHER APPLICANTS

i. Four-year Certificate ‘A’ or three-year Post Secondary teacher’s Certificate.
AND
ii. Four (4) gce ‘O’ Level credits or four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English Language and Mathematics.
AND
iii. At least a minimum of three (3) years teaching experience in the relevant area.

J. Mature applicants

Candidates applying for admission to Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes who have obtained the age of twenty-five (25) years or more, but who do not satisfy the above requirements will be classified as Mature Candidates. They must:

have reasonable education and working experience in relevant area.
be at least 25yrs of age
show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth
pass Mature Candidates Entrance Examinations (English, Mathematics and Aptitude Test)

CLASSES WILL BE ORGANIZED FOR MATURE APPLICANTS AS FOLLOWS:

HND Full-time Applicants:           
    Classes:                                 June 02, 2014 - June 27, 2014.
    Entrance Examinations:     July 05, 2014.
HND Part-time Applicants:           
    Classes:                                 August 04, 2014 – August 29, 2014
    Entrance Examinations:     September 06, 2014.

K. FOREIGN APPLICANTS

All foreign qualifications would be referred to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to HND Programmes.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-HND PROGRAMMES

CTC I

Passes in all General Course in Construction (GCC) subjects or passes in four (4) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics or four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including Core English and Core Mathematics.

MVT I

Pass in Motor Vehicle Mechanics (intermediate) or General Engineering or passes in four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE subjects including Core English and Core Mathematics.

EET I

Four (4) passes in SSSCE/WASSCE subjects including Core English, Core Mathematics and any two (2) elective science subjects or pass in Telecommunications Part I or four (4) GCE ‘O’ Level credits including English Language, Mathematics or a pass in Electrical Installation Work (Course B) or General Engineering.

MET I

Mechanical Engineering Craft Practice Certificate with passes in all three (3) subjects or General Engineering or passes in four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE subjects including Core English and Core Mathematics.

CTC II/ EET II

Applicants should be holders of CTC I/MVT I/EET I/ MET I certificates respectively.

Passes in four (4) SSSCE /WASSCE/GCE ‘O’ LEVEL subjects including Core

English and Core Mathematics and any two (2) science subjects.
OR

Refrigeration Mechanics Certificate

OR

       General Course in Engineering

Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting/Secretarial/Marketing/Purchasing & Supply/Statistics/Entrepreneurship Options)

Four (4) gce ‘o’ Level credits including English Language and Mathematics or rsa stage ii/GBCE with four (4) passes including English Language and Mathematics or passes in four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE subjects including English Language, Mathematics and two (2) elective subjects.

Advanced Business Certificate Examinations (ABCE)

       i. Four (4) passes in GCE ‘O’ Level / Ghana Commercial Exams

(rsa sTAGEii) / SSSCE/WASSCE including English Language and Mathematics.
OR
ii. Mature employees who need to acquire a higher qualification to enhance their
performance or promotion.

        General Business Certificate (GBCE)

Advanced Fashion
i..A pass in the Intermediate Dressmaking/Fashion Certificate Examination plus one year industrial experience

ii. Four (4) passes in SSSCE/WASSCE subjects including Core English, Core Mathematics and any other elective subjects or NVT I Grade II and Grade I certificates or four (4) credits in GCE ‘O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics.

Science Laboratory Technician Part I

Four (4) gce ‘O’ Level credits including English Language, Mathematics and any of these two (2) elective subjects: - Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Additional General Science or Passes in four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE subjects including Core English and Core Mathematics and any two elective subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics or four (4) GCE ‘O’ Level credits including English Language, Mathematics and any two (2) science subjects.

Advance Cookery (812/2)

Pass in Basic Cookery (812/1) or City and Guilds (706/2) and a minimum of one year working experience.

C. ACCESS (PRE-HND) COURSE TO HND SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING PROGRAMMES

The access course (English, Mathematics and Science) is organised by National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) to foster enrolment into the following programmes:

Pre-HND Furniture Design and Production
Pre-HND Mechanical Engineering
Pre-HND Electrical/Electronic Engineering
Pre-HND Civil Engineering
Pre-HND Building Technology
Pre-HND Hotel Catering and Institutional Management
Pre-HND Fashion Design & Textiles Studies

Duration – one (1) Academic year (i.e. two (2) semesters of 16 weeks per semester)

Entry Requirements for Access (Pre-HND)

        SSSCE/WASSCE (Science/Engineering background only) who could not obtain the grades required for direct entry.

OR

        Applicants with minimum qualification of Craft/Intermediate or Advance Certificate or MET I, MVT I, CTC I, EET I (without credit in Core English, Core Mathematics and Core/integrated Science), 812/1, 8122 (without credit in Core English, Core Mathematics and Core/Integrated Science), NVTI Grade II & Grade I certificates (without credit in Core English, Core Mathematics and Core/integrated Science).

A three (3) month course designed to equip students with the basic principles of the following languages of study:
