There are 2 types of nurses,
Public health nurse or Community health nurse

General Nurse

public health/Community health nurse; an especially prepared registered nurse employed in a community agency to safeguard the health of persons in the community, giving care to the sick in their homes, promoting health and well-being by teaching families how to keep well, and assisting in programs for the prevention of disease.

The six basic elements of nursing practice incorporated in community health programs and services are:

(1) promotion of healthful living
(2) prevention of health problems
(3) treatment of disorders
(4) rehabilitation
(5) evaluation and
(6) research.

These are the nurses you see doing immunizations, day care, public education of health hazards. They hardly stay in the hospital and are more moving from place to place making sure that any epidemic or health hazard is under control.

General nursing is the one you know. They are the nurses in the hospitals, assisting patients, and helping doctors to carry out surgical operations. They give first aid to to patients and many more.

The thing is health is a two way street. PREVENTION AND CURE. community health is more about preventing the disease from happening among the people in the community in the fist place whiles genera nurse is about helping cure the disease when it happens. A nurse can be a public/community health nurse or a hospital nurse.
