People can get offended by someones existence alone. There are a lot of strange people out their with a hard to understand personality. Through a combination of their past experiences, mixed with what they were taught, mixed with what they believe is true, could really depend on what they think about other people and their words.

I mean, lets say you were super happy and nice, always giving away compliments and trying to make people feel happy. Some might think you are sweet and appreciate your kindness. Others might find your sweetness annoying and unrealistic, and might even accuse you for trying to hide something.

Either way, even though most people might not be offended by your words, their just seems to always be that 1 person who completely disagrees with you, or might take your words out of context.

Its the law of averages, everything we do or say sometimes, not always has a negative effect on someone without us wanting it to. Sometimes its just the tone of your voice can set someone off into a hissy fit. You could tell your neighbor to have a nice day and she'll give you 50 reasons it won't be. So yea, if you can't say something nice about someone, my mother would tell us not to say anything at all.
